We are available to undertake small scale woodland management for you. We have many years experience working for private and local authority landowners to improve the biodiversity and quality of their woodlands. We pride ourselves on providing excellent value for money for expertise and hard work.
In a woodland full of young trees it can be difficult to see the tree for the wood! As part of a programme of thinning we could help you identify trees for ‘halo thinning’ to help them really grow well, and provide some structure and a range of habitats in your woodland.

Thinning provides space for trees to flourish, and creates new habitats. We always leave sites tidy and agree with the owner how they would like brash to be stored. Many people prefer (and we often advise) a number of ‘habitat piles’, giving invertebrates, birds and small mammals another space to flourish.
We can agree a price for the whole works or a daily rate. We love to offer a discount if there is material we can use for making charcoal. Contact ned@blackbirdcharcoal.co.uk to discuss how we can help you.
Our customers value the work we do, and return to us year on year:
Ned has done work on our nature reserves for several years now. He takes great pride in his work, thinks about what is best for the woodland, will offer suggestions where appropriate, and provides excellent value for money. I’d have no hesitation in recommending him.

Thanks for all the work you did for us to our woods at Brafferton. The work you did there was appreciated by the new owners.
The work made a huge difference to how the woods worked for us, and the charcoal you produced was great quality, we had some brilliant bbq’s!
